Dr. van Adelsberg was born on the island of Java, formerly the Dutch East Indies, and moved to Belgium and Holland during his childhood and to California at the age of 14. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California, he served in the US Army for three years and was discharged as an Army Captain, US Infantry in 1955.

Dr. van Adelsberg is committed to promoting good health while practicing a very healthy lifestyle of his own. Playing racquetball, bicycling, hiking and helicopter skiing are just a few of the activities he enjoys in his leisure time. He enjoys life on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, especially antique hunting, fine dining and spending time with his four children and seven grandchildren.
