Where can people receive treatment using PROMETA?
Physicians at the Peninsula Recovery Center have licensed the rights to use
the PROMETA treatment protocols. To learn more about this innovative treatment
approach, call (310) 514-5300 or toll free (866) 404-7346.
What are the PROMETA treatment protocols?
PROMETA is an innovative medical treatment approach for the management of
alcohol, cocaine or methamphetamine dependence in adults.
There are two PROMETA treatment protocols:
PROMETA for Alcohol Dependence
PROMETA for cocaine or methamphetamine dependence
PROMETA includes medically supervised treatments designed to address both
the neurochemical imbalances in the brain and some of the nutritional deficits
caused or worsened by substance dependence.
PROMETA also provides for one-month of prescription medications and nutritional
supplements, combined with recommended psychological or other recovery-oriented
therapy chosen by the patient in conjunction with their treatment
provider.
How are the PROMETA treatment protocols administered?
Following a comprehensive medical assessment, treatment with PROMETA begins
with the administration of pharmaceuticals and nutritional supplements in a
medically supervised setting over a period of 2-3 consecutive
days.
Treatment with PROMETA involves both orally (by mouth) and intravenously (through
a vein) administered medications and nutritional supplements.
For those patients treated for cocaine or methamphetamine dependence, PROMETA
provides for a second medically supervised treatment of 2 consecutive days
about 3 weeks after the initial treatment.
Following the medically supervised treatments, PROMETA provides that patients
will receive one-month of prescription medications and nutritional supplements
to be taken at home, and will be encouraged to enroll in continuing care treatment
(e.g., counseling, group support).
What type of continuing care is included in the PROMETA treatment
protocols?
The recommended psychosocial or other recovery-oriented therapy is chosen by the
patient in conjunction with their treatment provider.
